Center Stage Theatre began as two of Midland’s early community arts organizations: the Midland Little Theatre Guild, founded in 1928, and the Midland Music Society, founded in 1944. Long before the Center existed, volunteers from these groups created plays, musicals, concerts and other performances in spaces throughout the community.

Members of the Theatre Guild helped begin early conversations about creating a shared home for Midland’s cultural organizations. Both the Theatre Guild and Music Society later became charter organizations of Midland Center for the Arts, helping establish a place where community performers could rehearse, create and share their work.

Today, the theatre and musical theatre traditions that grew from those organizations continue through Center Stage Theatre. Each season, volunteers bring comedies, dramas and musicals to life as performers, directors, designers, technicians and more, making Center Stage Theatre not only a place to see theatre, but a place to belong to it.
