A More Flexible Way to Experience the Center

Relaxed performances and Museum experiences offer a supportive, less formal environment for anyone who would benefit from greater flexibility. Guests are welcome to move, step out, use support items and respond naturally throughout the experience.

These experiences may be especially helpful for people with autism, developmental disabilities, PTSD, sensory sensitivities or other access needs, along with their families and support people.

What Is a Relaxed Performance?

Relaxed performances feature the same story, music and performers as other performances, with adjustments to create a more flexible theater environment.

At a relaxed performance:

  • Sound levels are adjusted, and intense effects such as strobe lighting and haze are removed.
  • House lights remain on at a low level throughout the performance.
  • Theater doors remain open so guests may step out and return as needed.
  • Guests are welcome to stand, move around, talk quietly or express themselves naturally. These performances are shush-free.
  • Headphones, fidgets, comfort objects, seat cushions, personal electronics and other support items are welcome.
  • A quiet Take a Break space is available near the theater.
  • Trained volunteers are available to help throughout your visit.

Relaxed Museum Visits

The Hall of Ideas gives guests the freedom to follow their curiosity and explore at their own pace. Visitors may move through the Museum in the order that works for them, take breaks and return to experiences when they are ready.

Relaxed museum visits will be announced at a later date after opening. Sensory-friendly backpacks and a Hall of Ideas social narrative will be available to support your visit.
